Scottish Australian artist Katie Harris-MacLeod combines the use of both anthropic and organic materials foraged from surrounding landscapes to explore themes of (re) connection, memory, ritual, time and place.

Sleep Drawings, is a series of artworks inspired by lucid dream memories from sleeping on the edge of mountains; mind wanderings, dreams of creatures that live within the mountains, memories, myths, speaking rocks, lichens and mosses, mountain flowers, mist and distant echoes from the human world below.

Layer upon layer of inks made from the landscape, MacLeod etches old and new memory into paper surfaces becoming a palimpsest of time. A ritual of place and a ritual of remembering the spaces in-between; the lost places and the thin places.

I pay my deepest respect to the Traditional Custodians of the Country from which these artworks have been created: the Kabi Kabi/ Gubbi Gubbi and Jinibara peoples of the Sunshine Coast. To all First Nations elders past, present and emerging. Sovereignty was never ceded.
